The Ukrainian government has launched a new campaign to fight down online piracy. It is supposed to last for a month, with the support of the largest media companies, broadcasters and anti-piracy groups.

Governments around the world are increasingly paying attention to the problem of Internet piracy. What was before perceived as a local industry problem is now seen as a threat to national prosperity. Piracy groups are becoming more criminal, their activities deprive states of taxes and other income, while legitimate jobs are at risk. Ukraine used to be a haven for pirate business, and as a result is now drawing attention. Anti-piracy initiative aims to raise awareness of online piracy to counteract this.

According to new data published by cyberpolice of Ukraine, “100 pirated internet cinemas” have been closed since the beginning of 2019. (ns)
