According to the study carried out by EY estimate France may have lost at least 1.18 billion euro as a result of illegal consumption of audiovisual content. The analysis is based on Mediametrie / ALPA data and the ALPA report on the evolution of piracy practices. A survey was conducted among 3,000 people who have been illegally using online content for the past 12 months.
Film industry is to be most affected by piracy. 94% of people admitted to sometimes download or upload infringing videos.
The number of French citizens that use pirate content decreased by 8%, from 11.6 million in 2016, to 10.6 million in 2017. It turns out that more users are now willing to pay for legitimate movies. EY mentions Netflix, which has taken over some of the consumers. The number of Netflix users in 2016-2017 increased by 20%. (ns)
