John Haggerty and his wife founded Evolution Trading, a company that provided illegal access to Premier League football matches. The British couple earned 750,000 GBP selling over 8,000 illegal streaming devices. They also created a dedicate application so that their users have broader access to the piracy offer.

Haggerty was convicted by the Newcastle Crown Court to 5 years and 3 months in prison after he admitted to fraud and selling illegal services. His wife, Mary Gilfillan was convicted to fraud and received a suspended sentence of two years and ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work.

Beyond selling illegal content, Haggerty had many passports under different names and he founded a “fictitious company” on a small Caribbean Island Nevis in order to hide the real purpose of his business. The investigation revealed that John Haggerty had previously spent time in a US prison between 2009 and 2012.

In recent time Premier League is willingly watched by viewers which adds to piracy offers as well. Premier League director of legal services, Kevin Plumb says that Premier League “is currently involved in one of the largest and most successful anti-piracy programs in the world.” (ns.)
