Illegal Distribution of TV Channels in the Lviv Region

An organized group was detained in Ukraine, which illegally retransmitted programs belonging to 15 known TV channels. A group of three has created a video streaming service without the consent of the particular copyright owners, and now they are held responsible.
These people were involved in criminal activities from May 2017 to December 2018. The organized group included two residents of Odessa region and one of Lviv region. In total, damage was estimated at a total of over 2 million hryvnia (close to 100 000 USD).
Members of the group were accused of violating copyright rights for which Ukrainian law provides a fine of 2 to 3 thousand untaxed minimum income of citizens or imprisonment for a period between 3 to 6 years. (ns)
